Tredegar in Wales is perhaps best known as the place where Labour Leader Neil Kinnock was born and also for the place where Aneurin Bevan lived. If you want to follow in famous footprints on a luxury cottage holiday then Tredegar in Wales could be a great place to choose. What’s more, as this town is only a few miles south of the Brecon Beacons National Park, it is a naturally attractive place for keen walkers and hikers looking to explore the highlights of the great outdoors on a special break away.

Whilst staying in Tredegar, you may want to visit the town’s museum where you can delve into the town's fascinating past and learn how the industrial revolution started in the iron works and coal mines of the Sirhowy Valley. Follow on with a trip to see the remains of the Bedwellty pits and ironworks in the Sirhowy Valley. Admire the 72 foot town clock erected in 1858 that marks the centre of the town and the Grade II listed famous nine arches viaduct.

More information can be gleaned on the town's social history by visiting the Regency Villa, Bedwellty House which was formerly the home of Samuel Homfray, who was the boss of the Tredegar Iron Works in the 19th century. Finally relax with a pleasant walk in the 340 acres at Parc Bryn Bach or try a spot of carp fishing on the 36 acre lake. There is plenty to see and do in and near to Tredegar on a luxury self-catering break.

A luxury cottage break in or close to Tredegar could be an ideal choice if you enjoy learning about Welsh history and if you enjoy the exhilaration of being in the great outdoors. If all that is not enough, you can visit Newport or Cardiff for the day and get the benefit of the extensive choice of shops and restaurants on offer there.
