  • West Wycombe – this village is utterly charming with a wealth of historical buildings mostly belonging to the National Trust.  The village is notable for the impressive Mausoleum which stands high on the hill, the haunted Hellfire caves underneath and the West Wycombe Park Country House on the edge of the village.  There is so much to recommend this village but you will just have to visit to discover it for yourself!
  • Wendover- this beautiful market town is located near to the Chiltern Hills.  With gift shops, restaurant, pubs and cafes this town offers plenty of facilities.  There is an excellent delicatessen and a wonderful chocolate café which sells delicious handmade chocolates.  Wendover Woods is located close by and is a fun place for all the family.  This forest has various cycle trails, footpaths, a cafe and a children’s adventure playground.  Go Ape also have a site at this forest.
  • Buckingham - the county town and a picturesque place with a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.  Buckingham has a fascinating Old Gaol, which is home to the Tourist Information Centre as well as a museum.   The National Trust’s Stowe Landscape Gardens are just 3 miles from Buckingham and are an excellent place for idyllic country walks.
  • Marlow – this town deserves a special mention by virtue of its location by the River Thames.  What’s more, it is a pretty town with historical buildings, good shopping and an attractive riverside park.
  • Waddesdon – this village is situated not too far from Aylesbury and is undoubtedly best known for Waddesdon Manor.  This National Trust country house is impressive and features wonderful gardens along with an excellent restaurant.


Families with children may also want to visit the award winning Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden.  Another family friendly attraction is Gulliver’s Land at Milton Keynes, a family theme park.
